Event Title: CINCINNATI INITIATIVE TO REDUCE VIOLENCE
Thursday, June 12, 2008
CIRV, the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence that is taking place at 6 PM on June 12th at the Madisonville Recreation Center. The presentation should be very interesting and will go in-depth into some of the initiatives strategies and outcomes. The presentation is free and open to the public.

CINCINNATI INITIATIVE TO REDUCE VIOLENCE

The number of homicides in the City of Cincinnati has increased rapidly over the last decade, with a modern-day high of 89 homicides recorded for 2006. In response, the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) and other key stakeholders developed the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV), a multi-agency collaborative effort based on the Boston Gun Project of the 1990s. The CIRV and similar strategies rely on delivering messages of specific deterrence to those who generate and sustain a culture of violence. These types of initiatives help communities set clear standards for acceptable behavior, and offer offenders social services to change their violent lifestyles. CIRV's objective is to dramatically and quickly reduce the frequency of street violence in Cincinnati and continually reduce that frequency over time
