On October 19th, Kennedy Heights Community Council (KHCC) received the unanimous recommendation of the City of Cincinnati Planning Commission to adopt an Urban Design Plan (UDP) and an Urban Design Overlay District (UDOD) for the Kennedy Heights Business District, located along Montgomery Road between Tyne and Coleridge Avenues.
The UDP and UDOD will next be submitted to the Economic Development Committee of City Council chaired by Councilman Chris Bortz. The Economic Development Committee will review the proposed plan before submitting it to a vote by the full council. The Economic Development Committee has yet to schedule the date for that review, but the earliest date is the first week in November. We assume City Council would not review that matter until late November or early December.

The Urban Design Plan (UDP) includes recommendations for future business district improvements which we believe will enhance the safety, appearance, and quality of life for our residents, business owners and users of our business district. This plan has already been reviewed by Community Council and recommended to the city by resolution in June of this year.
If approved by City Council, the UDOD will establish guidelines for future development including, but not limited to, redevelopment projects, signage, and façade alterations. At the current time, it is KHCC’s intention to request that the UDOD be comparable to the UDOD currently in place for the Pleasant Ridge Business District which lies ½ mile to the west. Current UDOD standards can be viewed within the City of Cincinnati’s Municipal Zoning Code, sections 1437.01 thru 1437.13.
