New Neighborhood Identity Signs - Possible Logo Update:

From: Kennedy Heights Community Council Office

To: All Neighbors

Last year, and thanks to the efforts of Jenn Hackman, Kennedy Heights received a grant from the city to install new neighborhood identification signs at our corporation boundaries. The new signs must be designed and installed by the end of this year. The yin-yang symbol (pictured above) has been the neighborhood’s logo for more than thirty years and was featured atop the old corporation limit signs along Montgomery Road and at legal boundaries with Columbia Township and Silverton

With the recognition that over $30,000 would be spent designing and installing the new signs, KHCC established an ad-hoc committee to consider a potential update of the logo. We are still looking for residents, business operators, and property owners to offer their comments and opinions on how, or if!, the logo should be updated and what the new signs should look like. The first opportunity for resident input occurred at the Progressive Dinner in September. A second design workshop was held last December 8th and a third workshop occurred this past Saturday. The past two sessions have been attended by over 20 neighborhood residents, business, and property owners and have resulted in a productive exchange of ideas. To date, a majority of attendees have voiced support for updating the existing logo

A summary of comments received to date is listed as follows:

Purpose of a Neighborhood Logo:

  • First Priority: The logo should be used to express the positive feelings that residents and businesses have for the neighborhood
  • Second Priority: It should be a symbol that expresses the positive and unique qualities of the neighborhood to visitors, potential residents, prospective businesses and investors

Characteristics of the next-generation:

  • The legacy of the Yin-Yang symbol should be incorporated in some way on any new logo
  • The idea of unity and inclusion is important
  • Any new symbol should reflect current energies from Arts & Cultural Enterprises, Churches and Schools, Development Efforts & Successes and the Natural Beauty of the Neighborhood
  • The new logo should be simple and adaptable.
  • The logo should be a symbol of vibrancy, dynamic, eye-catching and colorful
  • The logo should be able to be used to help promote awareness of Kennedy Heights as a safe, walk-able, business-friendly community.

We would like to hold at least one additional public meeting or workshop before any formal recommendations are presented to Community Council. Check the website and stay tuned for details on future public meetings.

A fourth workshop will be held sometime during the spring. The date will be advertised via the website and e-news within the next few weeks. Your participation is important and all KH residents, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to attend.

Logo Survey
Please take a few minutes to complete a survey designed to solicit your thoughts and opinions. Your responses will be used to guide Brownstone Design as they prepare concepts for a possible next-generation logo.
