At the recently held Neighborhood Summit, sponsored by Cincinnati’s “Invest in Neighborhoods', one of Kennedy Heights own was honored.
Robert G. "Bob" Kamp received the 2008 Neighborhood Summit Good Neighbor Volunteer Award at a ceremony preceding the event at Xavier University’s Cintas Center. The Kennedy Heights Community Council nominated him for this honor.
By a unanimous vote at the December 2007 Kennedy Heights Community Council Board of Director's meeting, Bob Kamp was chosen to be our nominee for the Good Neighbor Volunteer Award. Although many others in our community are deserving of recognition for their effort, there was only one name who immediately leapt to the forefront, Bob Kamp. To understand why, you would only need to live in Kennedy Heights, because most everyone in Kennedy Heights has been paid a personal visit from Bob.
You see, Bob has been raising funds for the Kennedy Heights community for more than 15 years. His involvement with the Kennedy Heights Community Council includes serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for 15 years. Every year, Bob goes door to door in our community to raise funds for The Annual Fund Drive; to sell tickets to the Sap Run, a 5K run/bike and a 1K walk with a breakfast following the event; and to sell tickets to the community's favorite event, The Annual Kennedy Heights Progressive Dinner. These three events lead Bob to almost every household in Kennedy Heights, not once, not twice, but three times every year and have for the past 15 years.
If you are new to the community, Bob is surely there soon after moving in, to greet you for the Community Council, welcome you to the community and invite you to one of the upcoming events. It is estimated that Bob personally collects a check from over 300 households in Kennedy Heights every year and many of those households give three times a year, each time Bob visits them. Given those numbers, it should come as no surprise that we estimate that Bob has single-handedly raised around a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000) for the Kennedy Heights Community through the years of his involvement!
Bob, not only takes care of the fund raising for the Kennedy Heights Community Council, but he, with the help of his wife Mary, have also chaired the events and made certain that everything ran smoothly.
You would think that would be enough to keep Bob busy, but somehow, he has also found time to serve other organizations in Kennedy Heights as well. Bob has also served as Treasurer on the Kennedy Heights Montessori Board of Directors as well as serving on the Board of The Caring Place. He has undoubtedly raised funds for both of those organizations as well. Bob has even found time to deliver Meals on Wheels and still subs when needed.
At the neighborhood Summit, Bob was one of only three volunteers honored as "Gems of the City" among more than a dozen nominees. He received a plaque signifying his award and a decorative clock.
Once again, hats off to Mr. Bob Kamp!
