Kennedy Heights Gateway Grove

Gateway Grove: A Growing Community Space

Gateway Grove is a community orchard located at the edge of Kennedy Heights, on the corner of Kennedy Avenue and Robison Road. Part of the Common Orchard Project network, it was created to preserve public greenspace and grow the neighborhood’s tree canopy in a way that supports both the community and local ecosystem.

Since its first planting in 2023, volunteers—alongside support from the Kennedy Heights Community Council and Scrap It Up—have helped plant roughly twenty fruit trees, including apples, pears, peaches, and pawpaws. With help from a city grant, raised beds of raspberries and strawberries were later added, along with herbs, pollinator-friendly flowers, and a composting system installed with the Office of Environment & Sustainability.

The orchard is cared for by steward Jess Wieman and neighborhood volunteers. Harvestable fruit is expected in 2026, and all are welcome to share in the bounty!

Stop by to gather herbs, drop off food scraps, or simply explore.
